Car history:
2) Finished in beautiful code 975 Marlboro Maroon, this Corvette successfully renders an original look and feel in a restored Corvette, a task far more difficult to achieve than you'd think. The paint is an exact duplicate of the original color, rendered in two-stage urethane for a forever shine. Underneath, the fiberglass is in excellent condition, but it isn't too perfect, a sin that real Corvette fans don't forgive. The doors and hood fit the way the factory did it, and when you slide behind the wheel of this one, it's a direct link to your local Chevy showroom circa 1970. Chrome bumpers were still in fashion in 1970, and to many, they are the pinnacle of C3 design, along with the delicate grillework on the front fenders and subtle ducktail spoiler out back. Just a glance at this one tells you someone cared about doing the job properly.
Inside, there's a correct (and gorgeous!) code 424 Saddle leather bucket seat interior, also restored to a very high standard. The seats offer leather, not vinyl, on the seating surfaces, giving this Corvette an upscale feel that suits it just fine. New carpets were fitted that feature the proper weave and nap, the door panels, console, dash pad, and steering column all appear restored, and all that light tan makes for a bright, airy driver's compartment that's incredibly inviting. All the gauges are fully functional, and the original AM/FM radio remains in the dash. Other noteworthy options include ice cold factory A/C, a tilt steering column, and power windows. The big LS5 torque factory under the hood is perfectly paired with a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission, making this a fine grand touring car that's ideal for long-distance drives. Good thing it's comfortable, because you're going to want to spend a lot of time in there.
The engine is the original, numbers-matching LS5 454 cubic inch V8, rated at 390 horsepower. Not as high-strung as the LS6, it's still a big step up over the base 300 horsepower 350. Fully rebuilt to stock specifications and detailed for show, it features bright Chevy Orange paint, finned aluminum valve covers, and an open element air cleaner that wears proper reproduction decals. There's a correct Rochester Quadrajet carburetor on top, factory intake and exhaust manifolds, and proper hoses and tower clamps all around. The transmission is the aforementioned TH400 3-speed autobox that snaps through the gears, and it carries a matching VIN confirming its originality. The chassis is quite clean, showing signs of excellent care and no rust or damage, so you know someone has loved this 'Vette from day one. Factory Rallys wear a set of fresh 245/60/15 front and 255/60/15 rear BFGoodrich radials for a racy look.
All the numbers match up as they should on this 'Vette, making it a car you can show proudly and drive anywhere. BiN $48,995 (no longer available) on January 28, 2017.
